New Password Requirement for IBT Testing

Prometric's IBT system was recently upgraded to include a number of security enhancements related to strengthening password requirements.

Changes to the system and what they mean for you:

  1. Your password must be complex!
    • The new password you create must be at least 8 characters long and include a combination of lower case letters, upper case letters, numbers, and symbol characters (symbol characters accepted: :!@#$%^&*(.,)-=+) before it will be accepted by the IBT system.
  2. Your password is now CASE SENSITIVE!
    • When creating your password, make it a point to remember exactly how your password appears.
  3. You need to enter BOTH a username AND an e-mail address to restore or reset lost or forgotten passwords!
    • In order to recover a lost or misplaced password, you (the user) must navigate to your proctor domain and enter both your username and e-mail address. (In the past, a username was all that was required). Upon submitting this information you will receive an e-mail to the address you have entered that will include recovery instructions. (Note that you will be required to click on a link contained within the e-mail you receive in order to retrieve the information necessary to reset your password).
  4. If your password is not recognized, you need to reset your password following the below instructions:

If you continue to experience any login problems, please call our customer line:
800-471-6975 or 443-751-4700

Information for candidates

  1. If the candidate needs to reset his/her password, they can reset it from the regular DSST testing domain at https://ibt.prometric.com/dsst
  2. Password requirements are the same as for proctors, as detailed above.
  3. The new upgrade includes a new rule for credit card transactions that will benefit candidates. Going forward, credit cards will be authorized when the payment information is entered and charged only once the exam has actually begun.

Notice on Transcript Fee Increase

Please note that the Transcript Request Fee will be raised from $20 to $30, starting on April 5, 2010.

Remember to complete the "score report recipient" option located in the answer sheet for paper-based testing or enter the "Designated Institution (DI) code" if you are taking an internet-based test in order to obtain a one-time score submission at the time of testing, at no additional charge.

This increase does not affect transcripts ordered by DANTES Test Control Officers.

If you have any questions about the price increase, please contact our customer service line at 1-877-471-9860 or email us at getcollegecredit@prometric.com

Frequently Asked Questions on the score report and transcript fee increase:

1.  Do I always have to pay for a transcript on top of paying for the exam?

No. Your initial testing fee includes a score report submission. However, you have to make sure you give us the appropriate information at the time of testing. Any requests after the testing has concluded will need a transcript request form and will incur in a $30 fee. As a reminder, here's how you can have access to your scores:

Score reporting for internet-based testing: You will be able to view your unofficial score report immediately after the test has ended. You need to provide the Designated Institution (DI) code at the time of testing in order to have DSST send an official score report to your institution of choice. The DI code is a four digit code that DSST assigns to every institution who accepts DSST transcripts. If you don’t input the DI code during the exam registration, we won’t be able to mail the score report and you will need to fill out a transcript request form with the appropriate payment.

Score reporting for paper-based testing: Two score reports will be provided after the test has been processed; one to the personal address you provided, and the other to your designated institution. In your answer sheet, you need to fill out the "score report recipient" option with the DI code. Again, if you don’t provide us with a designated institution, we won't be able to mail the score report and you will need to fill out a transcript request form with the appropriate payment.

2.  Where do I find my Designated Institution (DI) code?

You can find your DI code by clicking here and searching for your institution. The result will provide you with the DI code located on top of the Institution's name as shown in the example below:

3.  I am a DANTES Test Control Officer (TCO); does this fee increase affect me?

No. Dantes TCOs are not affected by this fee increase.

4.  Is the exam fee increasing as well?

No. The exam fee is not increasing at this time.
