How To Improve Your Time Management In School
Time management is the key to success for any student. Life can feel overwhelming when you feel like you have a hundred things to do, such as juggling a job on top of schoolwork or trying to make time for friends and family. However, with the right time management tips you can get a handle of your daily schedule and relieve more stress.
Purchase a calendar. Are you a super unorganized person? Using a calendar can help you put your tasks and thoughts all in one place. For tech-savvy students, your phone or Google calendar can be a great place to integrate all your “to-dos”. If you need a more visual view of your assignments, purchase a wall or pocket calendar. Recording upcoming deadlines and due dates in a calendar will help you stay on track when it comes to homework and other commitments.
Plan for distractions. When allotting time to go to the gym or to write a research paper, be sure to add an extra 10 or 15 minutes to your schedule. Bumping into a friend or your roommate who has “the funniest story” to tell you can definitely cause a delay. By padding in extra time around your tasks you are able to provide extra time for whatever distractions that may arise.
Set deadlines. Use the beginning of your day for planning. Make a “to-do” list to establish what you want to accomplish by the end of the day. Setting a goal will make you that much more focused and driven to complete tasks. Plus, you’ll be able to fully appreciate your day when you see al the items on your list crossed off your list!
Eliminate Electronics. Yes, Facebook can be entertaining, but its not going anywhere. Turn your phone off and close your browsers. It’s amazing how much time you can save!
Remember what’s important. If your number one focus is school then always remember that school comes first. If it’s a job, then remember that work comes first. If it is your upcoming DSST exam, then studying comes first. Know your priorities, hold yourself accountable, and stick to them!
Don’t Stress. This is important. Strive to do the best you can. It is nearly impossible to get everything done and sometimes it might just feel like there aren’t enough hours in a day. Having a positive attitude will only help you in becoming a time management expert!
